Ten on Tuesday

1. It is finally warming up here. Yesterday it was almost 60 and is to remain in the 50's for the foreseeable future! I'm ready for Spring!
2. I recently tried the, shamrock shake from McDonald's. It's only brought out in the month of March and a fan favorite...except for me, I wasn't a fan. Maybe the crew member didn't make it right?!
3. What I am a fan of though is the Snickers Frappe from Starbucks! Its a Java Chip with 2 shots of toffee nut, caramel in the cup and caramel drizzle-yum!
4. Saturday, my newbie is going to be 3 months old? How? Where did that time go???
5. I would post a pic; but haven't watermarked any recently. And yes the pic would normally go here!
6. We are now a 2 car family! So happy and thankful! We were able to purchase a 2007 Buick Rendezvous, bucket seats in the middle and a 3rd row seat! Much roomier for our family than our Jeep and I feel so much safer now that the kids aren't literally crammed in.
7. Klayton has now lost a total of 5 teeth...crazy kid. I owe it to the fact that he was an early teether. Hoping his permanent teeth come in stronger.
8. Justus is getting his words-slowly; but surely they are coming! My guys are just late talkers and that is okay!
9. Speaking of Justus, he has become quite the climber. This is a new experience for me and I can safely say it makes me slightly nervous.
10. Tomorrow, I PROMISE to be back with a Wordless Wednesday picture!
Happy Tuesday!

Ten on Tuesday-Bring You Up to Speed

1. We are now living in Wisconsin and have been here for almost a month! We are loving it.
2. Justus is now 16 months!
3. Klayton is getting ready to celebrate his 5th birthday and is in pre-K!
4. I am 28 weeks pregnant! And I "get" to do my glucose test on Friday.
5. We are excited to meet this little guy in December.
6. Klayton has lost 2 teeth while Justus is getting 2 new teeth.
7. Thursday my hubs will celebrate his 36th birthday. Upward swing to 40-he's getting old.
8. A little laugh for this Tuesday, courtesy of Klayton! My mom had a deer in her garden that she told Klayton about. He told her that he needs to get his gun (don't worry he doesn't have a real one) and come shoot. She asked him, "why? are you going to eat it?" His reply, "I don't like deer meat-I like people meat!"
9. God gave those little children to you, Mama-to you. No one else can mother them like you can. You may have your work cut out for you, but you're the one cut out to accomplish it.
10. Have a Happy Tuesday and I am promising to be back this week!

My Little Politician,
Yes, I have officially given you a nickname that is sticking! I took you with us to vote for the senate and governor where everyone would ooh and aw over you! Then ask your name, "Justus; but not spelled like the store or the Justice of the Peace...someday he is going to be on the ballot-Justus for all!" Then from that day on, I started calling you 'My Little Politician' or my 'Chunky Politician'. Now that I think about it, I think you became a happier baby when I gave you a nickname that was all your own? Okay, I know that is not the case; but you have been SO happy and we are all loving it! I love how your smile makes your gorgeous big blue eyes sparkle! You are just SO cute and SO loved! Thank you for letting me bestow all those kisses upon your forehead and for crying every time I leave to go do my laundry-its nice to know that you notice when I am gone and that you need me! Love you more than yesterday!
Love You,
Mama

Dear Justus,
To be honest, I have backdated this post on the blog. As you can see in the pictures above you were not happy. I really wanted to retake the pictures and get some happy shots! But, then I realized and accepted that this is reality, this is what life seems to be like most days. Maybe it is teeth? I can see little bumps on your bottom gums...two in fact. I am pretty sure that a day will come where I will laugh at the above pictures and smile as I miss these days. So, today I am choosing to cherish even the tears...the many, many tears because if there were no tears there would not be a YOU!

Love,
Mama

Justus-4 Months Old

Justus, you are 4 months!

YOU:
*Wear 0-3 and 3-6 month clothes.
*In size 1 diapers.
*Don't always like to cooperate for pictures, therefore this months pictures were difficult to get done and find a decent one. (Maybe I should devote a post to all the outtakes?!)
*Laughed for the first time!
*Still hate tummy time.
*Are a restless napper. Not good.
*Love to "chat". I love talking to you because you respond back.
*Have such a good grip when holding onto things.
*Like to grab.
*Enjoy being snuggled close.
*Still a good eater; but are no longer enthused with taking a bottle-especially from mommy.
*Enjoy looking at bright colors.
*Love the outdoors. If you are crying sometimes simply taking you outside helps.
*Have lots of smiles!
*Hate the sound of the vacuum cleaner. Whenever it is on your eyes bug out and tears fill your eyes.
*Seem to be teething, that is the only thing I can think of with all of your drooling and chewing.
*Still completely in love with your Great Grandma Barnhardt.
*Want to be held as much as possible.

Hey Chunky Monkey,
This month has kept me on my toes with you from colds to blood blisters and to what appears to be teething...we are definitely increasing the mommy knowledge. Yesterday, I was at my housekeeping job and thinking about you. I suddenly became overwhelmed-once again-that I GET to be your Mommy and that I GET to have you as my baby. I am SO undeserving of you; but I am not going to argue with God or get upset at Him for blessing me with you! I love you little guy and I will cherish all these days with you!

Love Ya, ALWAYS,
Mommy

Justus, you are 3 months old! Um, how is this already possible?!

YOU:

*Weigh 11 lbs 12 oz as of two weeks ago.
*23 3/4 inches long.
*Wear size 1 Pampers diapers. We switched from Huggies because they were leaving awful red marks on you and well there was also the unpleasantness of constant leaking.
*Wear 0-3 and 3 month clothing best!
*Super active and therefore it was quite difficult to get pictures taken of you.
*Love to chat and will "reply" back when spoken to.
*Still an awesome nurser and does great at taking a bottle for daddy as well.
*Brought out the swing this week and you are loving that!
*Love to face outward and see whats going on.
*Have become more of a contented baby and others agree.
*Very alert.
*Still hating tummy time.
*Enjoys being snuggled for bedtime.
*Waking still once a night for a feeding; but I can't complain because its getting better.
*Enjoy walks in the stroller.
*Also enjoy being in your baby wrap.
*Smiles are seen often.
*Whenever you hear mommy or daddy's voice you look for it!
*Are a restless napper.

Oh Justus,
I love you more than words could ever express. Everyday it seems I love you more than before and I am loving every smile! You smile often and we are always looking for ways to make you smile-it doesn't take much effort!
I promise that I will always keep your best interest in mind. It is not about me, when I think about choices for the future they involve you and your best interest. I don't take you for granted or my "job" as Mommy for granted. I promise to seek God's continual wisdom for you and your brother.
Do you know how much your big brother loves you? Hardly an hour goes by without a kiss from him to you. I love it! I know those kisses won't last forever, so I encourage it now and pray that brotherly love grows strong and remains strong as the years go on.
These moments, these days I hope they remain etched in my mind and heart so I can bring them back to memory whenever I want.
I love you Chunky Monkey!

With All my Heart,
Mommy

Justus-2 Months

Justus, you are TWO MONTHS!

YOU:

*Wear size 1 diapers. I moved you into these a couple weeks ago. I did this simply because I didn't want to buy another package of newborn diapers.
*Starting to literally bust out of newborn clothes.
*I weighed you myself today and it appears you are 10 lbs! Chunky Monkey!
*Still nursing like a champ. Eating every 2-3 hours, just depends on the time of day.
*Wakes once a night for a feeding and promptly falls back asleep. I think you will soon be sleeping through the night!
*Love to "chat".
*A very restless baby.
*We have good days and VERY bad days with the colic. The very bad days makes me question my mothering abilities...
*Love to be held laying in the arms, just as you laid in my tummy.
*Getting much better with your neck control.
*Started doing tummy time and to say you are not a fan is an understatement.
*Are very good at gripping and grabbing!
*Have become very alert and always looking around to check out the sights.
*Perk up when you hear Mommy or Daddy's voice.
*Smile often.
*Very active with your hands and feet.

*Took your first vacation to Wisconsin and Michigan. You meet your Aunt Kayla, Uncle Kenny and Cousin RoseMarie. As well as meeting your Great Grandma and Grandpa Collins and Great Grandma and Grandpa Barnhardt.
*You had an instant bond with Great Grandma Barnhardt. Daddy and I agree that you will always know and love her!

Oh Justus,
You challenge me almost daily. I don't mean this badly; but you are teaching that I don't AlWAYS have the answer for my kiddos. Therefore, I really need to be a Mama of prayer that is continually seeking wisdom on how to raise you. These days, I'm sure in hindsight will be easy in comparison to the years that lie ahead of us.
I am SO grateful for you and that I get to be your Mama. Honestly, I have had days where my heart has been broken because I just didn't feel like we were bonding the way I thought we should. I have been tired. Thankfully, we are figuring each other out and I have realized that some bonds take a little more time than others and thats okay! In the end all that matters is that you and I belong together as Mommy and Son! And, I get to snuggle you close each night and really whenever I want because God has seen fit to let me be your Mommy and I love you always through the tears and smiles.

All My Love,
Mommy

Holding Answered Prayer

Last week we went to Kenosha, Wisconsin for a couple of days to visit my grandparents. While there I was able to enjoy a quick visit with a friend, BobbiJo and her family! This visit was really special to me...for this reason!
See those two cuties? KadiJo and Justus are answered prayer. BobbiJo and I spent, what seemed like years at times praying for one another that God would bless us with another child!
KadiJo loves me I am sure and I can tell you the feeling was mutual! I can still remember a Saturday morning in March of 2013 waking up to a text from BobbiJo telling me to wake up and there was a picture of a pregnancy test with 2 lines! And I longed to get two lines of my own-which finally came in September!
When I held Justus for the first time, I remember that feeling of knowing that he was a true testament to answered prayer. But, until I held KadiJo I have never been able to quite literally hold in my hand answered prayer that I have prayed for someone else. Does that even make sense? None the less, it is a feeling of humbleness that took my breath away. I am SO thankful that I serve a God who answers prayer. I am so thankful that He also lets us see prayers answered and even hold it in our hands at times!
As we held our littlest blessings it was also fun to watch that our other blessings are becoming buddies as well and I will sign off with the outtakes of trying to get two little boys to look at a camera for a decent picture...

Justus-One Month

Justus, you are one month old TODAY!

Where has the time gone? We finally went and did newborn pictures yesterday; but maybe I should call them one month pictures? All pictures posted today are courtesy of yesterdays photo shoot and next month it will be back to your old mom doing the monthly pictures again!

YOU:

*Weigh 7 lbs. 3 oz.
*Measure at 21 inches long.
*Wear newborn diapers.
*Wear newborn clothes and they are still sometimes too big.
*Nursing like a champ and eat a lot! You are fed every 2 1/2-3 hours throughout the day and at night you wake up twice to be fed.
*Sleep A TON still-as I write this you are yet again asleep!
*When you are awake you are becoming more and more alert.
*Are a crier-especially at night. In the last few days though I can see that we are beginning to get over that hump and for this I am very grateful!
*Do not like having a dirty diaper.
*Love to lay in your boppy.
*Like to suckle and therefore enjoy your pacifier. I discovered this trait before we even left the hospital and quickly introduced the pacifier.
*Are a mover with your hands. When you get mad they move very fast!
*Are working at strengthening your neck muscles. I watch you trying to lift your head and you are slowly getting there. The nurses said your neck would be more wobbly for a bit simply because of laying transverse for so long in my tummy.
*Starting to coo! Love that sweet sound!
*Love making the "O" shape with your little mouth-so cute.

My Little Monster,
I do call you Monster in love of course. You really can be such a sweet baby; but when night comes a whole new personality comes alive! I admit, its frustrating because no one believes your daddy and I when we tell them that the crying is more like screaming and comes on with no warning and no escalation. But, as this month has quickly passed I believe this season of screaming will quickly pass.
Do you know how loved you are? Big brother is constantly kissing your head and leaving proof of chocolate kisses and fruit punch kisses...needless to say I had to clean your head of the proof before pictures were taken yesterday. And I love to snuggle you close and just soak you in and in those moments my love for you overwhelms me, so, I find myself thanking God-once again-with blessing me-once again-with you! I love you and I am already wishing time could slow down just for a bit.

Love,
Mom

Back to the Lord

One of the most special things to Joseph and I, has been the fact that the first place we have taken our boys is church! Both boys were born on a Thursday and released from the hospital on a Saturday! We want them raised knowing who our Lord is and what better way to start their adventures in life; but in church?!
I love dressing up my boys for church and Justus was looking exceptionally handsome for his first church service! Following the morning church service we took time to give our baby boy back to the Lord. We dedicated to raise our little boy in a home that wants to serve God, wants to love God and in a home that will strive to do its best to follow God and His Word!
And of course, what would his first time at church be without a family photo?!
"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." Psalm 127:3

Justus-The Birth Story

I went in on Tuesday, May 20th to be induced. We woke up at 4 a.m-who wakes up that early anyway? Arrived at the hospital around 5 and the nurses did all the standard checks before my doctor was to arrive. As they were looking for baby's heartbeat it was discovered that he had once again flipped to transverse. Frustrating. My doctor arrived and options were given to have a version at noon followed by induction or wait until Thursday. We didn't believe there was a right or wrong way to go and decided to be induced at noon. Unfortunately, it seemed like nothing was working out for each of the departments involved and we were sent home. It was a long, frustrating morning. I was discouraged because I had let myself mentally prepare to be having a baby that day and I actually had slept the night before-which was becoming a very rare occurrence in my last days of pregnancy.
Thankfully, Thursday-May 22nd did come and we arrived at the hospital around 6 a.m. It was confirmed that Justus was still in fact transverse-his head was laying on my right side. The version was set for 7:30 and I told the nurses once the IV was inserted that I was NOT leaving and I WOULD BE having a baby that day-IVs hurt and I really didn't want to endure that again!
Yes, I know that the pain of the IV was the least amount of pain I would be feeling that day. At 7:30 I was taken to radiology for the version-an hour after it was confirmed that his head was on my right it was quickly discovered that in that hour he had flipped again, this time his head was now laying on my left side. The version was a success and it was decided that I would be taken back to my room to have my water broken. By 8:00 I was back in my room and it was discovered that he was once again in the process of flipping back to transverse. Yes, the idea of enrolling him in gymnastics upon his entrance into the world was suggested! My doctor's partner proceeded to flip Justus to head down and hold him in place so my doctor could break my water and get my little guy to engage. I had A LOT of fluid, that is no exaggeration-my doctor and his partner both said they had never seen that much water. After my water was broken I progressed from a 2 to a 5. Thankfully, I am not a person who really starts feeling my contractions until I am at a 7-8, so even though I was beginning to contract regularly I wasn't feeling much of the contractions. But, unfortunately I get to that 7 and that ouch feeling is instantaneous. I started having back labor and begged for the use of the shower; but as my contractions got stronger there were decels in his heart and so I was not allowed to take that hot shower I was dreaming about. My nurse, Sydney was awesome though and had me stand over the bed and while I rocked and probably moaned she massaged my back. During those few minutes my contractions picked up and she decided that it was almost baby time. I got back into bed and she started getting her "tools" ready.
I cried a little because I didn't think I could continue with this pain, my doctor arrived and I was checked for the final time. I only had a "lip" left before being fully dilated. My doctor took his lunch break in labor and delivery because he said it wouldn't be much longer. I was in denial. He came back to my room, sat at my feet-ready to deliver a baby. I remember vividly thinking, it is not about to happen. I kind of felt annoyed as I felt like I was expected to promptly make progress that I knew just wasn't going to happen. I felt that way because I had stayed at a 7 for longer than just a few minutes! But, that is why I am not the doctor because within just a few minutes of my doctor sitting there I was suddenly pushing! As each contraction came to encourage me to push, my baby's heart beat would decelerate. I pushed for 15 minutes and with the help of a vacuum, because each time the heart decels took a little longer to climb back up, Justus was born! Justus was born weighing in at 7 lbs and 21 inches in length!
I was so overwhelmed to hold my baby boy for the first time!
And, well Klayton wasn't to crazy about meeting his brother for the first time!
That's the story folks! We are so thankful for God's goodness to our family of 4!

6 Pounds, Diet Rite and GD

Today marks the end of week two in my journey with GD (gestational diabetes). I am officially 30 weeks 5 days and saw my doctor for the first time since the diagnosis this past Monday. My numbers were looking great and he told me to keep it up! Those words were SO encouraging to hear because I feel like I need to obtain perfection in this diet and that I just keep falling short in some way or another. In the last two weeks I have lost 6 lbs.-he said that is to be expected due to the diet changes. So, I am only 6 lbs heavier than I was pre-pregnancy. Crazy!
When I saw my doctor for the first time since learning that I have GD I knew to expect something more from the appointment than normal; but didn't expect to hear as much as I did! For starters, I don't think I really considered that GD is high risk because it seems to be so common now a days. I learned that starting at week 32, I will begin visiting the OB floor at the hospital for NST (stress test on baby) and I will receive once a month ultrasounds! I must admit I am thrilled that I get to see Justus a couple more times via ultrasound! Between, my doctor, the dietitian, ultrasounds and visits to the OB floor I will definitely be getting around at the hospital and I am sure either I will be sick of seeing them or they will get sick of seeing me! Ha! I also went into my doctor realizing that I have 10 weeks to go until due date; but left the office with only 9 weeks to due date! Say what?! If Justus does not come on his own by week 39 I will be induced. I am however, praying that I go into labor on my own, it is one thing I have been really hopeful for in this pregnancy. If you wouldn't mind praying with me on that!
Since being on my new diet it seems the only drink of choice is my Propel water. I like it but its getting old. I can drink diet pop in moderation; but I really prefer to avoid that because of the aspartame-though I have given in less than 5 times. Tonight I discovered that sometimes things that you just know are going to be awful aren't that bad because you just want something different...I experienced my first sip of Diet Rite! Now don't get me wrong, its not going to be my beverage of choice once I deliver this baby boy; but for now it will do...in moderation of course!

Pregnant Tuesdays-Gestational Diabetes

A week ago today I learned that I have the dreaded GD-gestational diabetes. I failed the one hour glucola test as I did with Klayton and went in the following morning for the 3 hour test. I fully expected to pass and be borderline as I was with Klayton; but that was not to be. The nurse called to tell me and I let my pregnancy hormones get out of control and cried about it. I was SO upset and I dreaded the diet I knew would be coming. I immediately got on Facebook and messaged friends that I knew have GD as well and I am so thankful that I was able to reach out to them through Facebook! They were such a help to me and I decided to follow their diet until I met with the dietitian.
So, last Friday I met with a dietitian and receive a "nice" little kit to start pricking my finger for blood now. Oh joy. I was put on a "diet". Oh joy. What does this mean for the rest of my pregnancy-no more root beer. I have to avoid sugar and sweets as much as possible and I must limit my carbs. For example, I have three snacks a day that each is only allowed to contain 15-30 grams of carbs and my meals are allowed to contain 45-60 grams of carbs. I am also to walk as much as I can for exercise. Mostly the diet is about moderation. We had spaghetti for dinner and I allowed myself one serving and filled up on salad. I am trying to be good and do the diet "right"; but I get fearful that I am not doing it perfectly and Justus will be effected.
To sum it all up, I wish I didn't have GD; but I am thankful we caught it and I can hopefully control it to have the birth I want to have when the time comes.

Friends Reunited

Fourteen years ago, I became roommates with Lindsay and we soon became good friends. Lindsay has been a very much needed friend in my life and so I was grateful that we were able to once again reunite this past weekend! Our lives have definitely changed since we first met, she has 4 boys and I get to follow in her footsteps has being a boy mom myself with Klayton and Justus!
My little ham with three of her boys Clayton (who everyone kept asking if we had named Klayton after) Quinton and Hudson...
Can I just say that Klayton absolutely loved having playmates around?
And well, I enjoyed having my friend Lindsay around and meeting her newest little guy-Garrison!
And not to be left out, my little Cheeser had to join in for a pic!
I think Klayton would have preferred going home with Lindsay and her boys. But, I kept him and we will just look forward to next time!
